Born from the visual language of Abu Dhabi, the Covent Garden Abaya brings together contemporary tailoring, architecture and one of the United Arab Emirates’ most treasured traditional crafts.
The Covent Garden Abaya draws part of its design language from Wahat Al Karama, one of Abu Dhabi’s most distinctive architectural landmarks. Its monumental forms, composed of structures that lean into and support one another, provided the inspiration for the intersecting geometry found within the abaya’s statement cuffs.
Bint Saeed translates this architectural reference into textile through alternating bands of black and gold-tone Al Talli, creating a graphic composition across the sleeves. Recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, Al Talli is a traditional Emirati weaving craft passed through generations of women in the UAE. Here, its application creates a dialogue between two expressions of the Emirates: contemporary Abu Dhabi architecture and inherited craftsmanship.
The result is a detail that carries the landscape of the city into the garment. Architecture becomes line, line becomes textile, and textile becomes something that can be worn.
Cut in an elegant A-line silhouette and fully lined with soft crepe, the Covent Garden Abaya falls fluidly from the shoulders and moves beautifully with every step. It is designed for weddings, official occasions, elegant gatherings and evenings that call for something distinctive.
The shoulders are finished with epaulettes and Bint Saeed’s signature gold-tone Knotted Line buttons, another house code inspired by connection, lineage and the paths that bind one generation to the next.
A detachable statement sash completes the design. Finished with Al Talli detailing and the Bint Saeed gold-tone Monogram pin, it can be draped from the shoulder or styled diagonally across the body, allowing the silhouette to take on a more ceremonial character.
Available in Deep Black, Burgundy and Navy Blue, the Covent Garden Abaya can be worn over the Covent Garden Dress or Hampstead Dress to create a complete layered look.
